Merry Christmas! It's the most wonderful time of the year, and we hope that your Christmas season has not been left you overwhelmed from holiday shopping, events, or what can quickly become a depressing news cycle.
Christmas is always such a special time to focus on the character of God, and each year it seems something different stands out about His character through the Christmas story. This year, I have enjoyed pondering on the way God worked through Zacharias and Elizabeth (found in Luke 1). I was led to this passage through sermon preparation, and studying God's silence, how He chose to work through Zacharias and Elizabeth, and how Zacharias' imposed silence led him to rejoicing over the faithfulness of God.
I was able to speak on this topic twice, once with First Baptist which you can watch here, and once at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, a church in Murphy, NC, where I have been able to speak several times before. These opportunities have allowed me to reflect on how God uses silence to grow us, as well as how we can trust in His faithfulness even when it seems like we haven't heard from Him in a while.
To be still and know that He is God is an act of worship to God as we seek to restore Him to His proper place in our lives. Will you join Sarah and me in that endeavor over Christmas?
Our work with different churches continues, as does our mission to make disciples through our home church of RFBC. Sarah and I continue to work where God has provided opportunity. Pray for us, that we would be receptive to the Holy Spirit as He leads us and provides more opportunities for discipleship here and with other churches. If you would like to join our financial support team, you can send your gift to Eternal Truth Ministries in Robbinsville, NC, at PO Box 1240. Your support allows us to continue in this ministry, so thank you. And if you have any questions about ETM or what we do, please do not hesitate to reach out to Sarah or me.
As we welcome Christmas, Sarah and I would love to hear what your favorite Christmas movie is! Mine (Ethan's) is probably National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Mine (Sarah's) is Home Alone! We hope you stay warm, have safe travels, enjoy family and friends, and stop to reflect on our faithful God who has provided His Son as a lifeline for us.
